The Millennium Innovation Competition, organized by the Millennium Challenge Fund, was successfully held this year, with participation from student-inventor teams from all regions of Georgia. 13 teams were selected for the finals, of which 4 teams were prepared at the Department of Engineering Physics at the Georgian Technical University by Professors David Songulashvili and Teimuraz Chichua.

The award ceremony for the winning teams was held on March 28 at the Radisson Republic.

  • First place: Barn’s Smart Labyrinth (Givi Zaldastanishvili American Academy, AIA-GESS School, Progress School, Tbilisi, Kutaisi) – Supervisor: D. Songulashvili. The team will travel to the USA to participate at NASA’s Space Center University.
  • Third place: Aesculape (AIA-GESS School, Orthodox Gymnasium named after Alexi Shushania, Tbilisi, Senaki) – Supervisor: D. Songulashvili. The team will travel to Belgium to attend the EuroSpace Summer School.
  • Retroreflective Cubic Mosaic Screen and Schlieren Mobile Detector for Optical Inhomogeneity Detection (AIA-GESS Gymnasium) – Supervisor: T. Chichua. The team will travel to the USA to participate in the INTEL ISEF competition. They were awarded a three-week training program in the UK. A monthly TBS Bank scholarship (100 GEL) was granted for one year.
  • Agricultural Mosaic Auditory Light Filter Screen for Selective Photosynthesis (AIA-GESS Gymnasium) – Supervisor: T. Chichua. The team members were awarded a monthly scholarship (100 GEL per month) for one year by the Georgian Farmers’ Association. It is noteworthy that in recent years, student teams trained at the GTU Department of Engineering Physics have consistently emerged as the undisputed leaders of this competition.
