Georgian Technical University announces an open competition for the academic position of Associate Professor

Georgian Technical University (hereinafter referred to as the University) announces an open competition for one vacant position of Associate Professor (with an annual workload of 400 hours) at the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Design, in subject group N8.

I. Deadlines for accepting applications and conducting the competition

Additional information for those wishing to participate in the competition (including subject groups, etc.) will be posted on the university website: www.gtu.ge.

Applications will be accepted at the Dean’s Office of the Faculty (address: Kostava St. #68, Ic Building, Room #402, tel.: 233 71 63), one month after the announcement, from February 29 to March 2, 2016, every day, from 1000 to 1500.

Applications for consideration of the issue of participation in the competition for an academic position by a person aged 65 and over will be accepted at the Secretariat of the Academic Council on February 29, 2016 (from 1000 to 1700 hours).

The competition will be held on March 4, 2016. The results of the competition will be published on the same day, on the information board of the Faculty Competition Commission and on the university website: www.gtu.ge.

II. Competition conditions

1. Main conditions of the competition:

a) A person with a doctorate or equivalent academic degree and no less than 3 years of experience in scientific and pedagogical work may be elected as an associate professor;

2. Anyone wishing to participate in the competition must personally present:

a) A duly completed and signed application and questionnaire (see forms on the GTU website), as well as documentation confirming the information presented in them: diploma, certificate, diploma, deed, reference, etc. (original and copy);

b) Document confirming scientific/academic degree (original and copy);

c) Document(s) confirming scientific-pedagogical experience (experience), certified by the seal of the relevant organization/institution;

d) List of scientific and educational-methodical works, certified by the signature and seal of a competent person of the relevant institution/organization (certification can also be done by the signature of the head of the relevant academic department of the university and the seal of the academic department/faculty);

e) A list of competitive subjects in which the competitor can lead a course of lectures and/or other types of classes.

f) Identity card (original and photocopy);

g) 2 photographs, 3X4.III. Limitation of participants in the competition

1. A person whose holding an academic position at a higher educational institution is restricted by applicable legislation will not be admitted to the competition.

2. The Academic Council, by a qualified majority (2/3) of votes, by secret ballot, individually decides on the issue of participation in the competition for an academic position by a person aged 65 or older.

3. A person who works at another higher educational institution (full-time position), in case of winning a full-time position in this competition, will be obliged to be dismissed from the current job or transferred to a part-time position before signing an employment contract.

IV. Rules for conducting the competition

1. The competition will be held in accordance with the “Law of Georgia on Higher Education”, the University Charter and the “Regulations on the Rules for Conducting Competitions for Academic Positions”, which the contestant will familiarize himself with at the competition commission and on the university website.

2. The competition commission will take into account: the relevance of the candidate’s qualifications and competences to the competitive position, including scientific-research, engineering, educational-methodological and pedagogical activities relevant to the profile of the competitive position; other activities, achievements, qualifications, experience and merit; as well as (upon the decision of the commission) the results of the lecture given by the candidate and/or the interview conducted by the competition commission with the candidate(s).

3. The results of the competition may be appealed in court, in accordance with applicable legislation.
