An open competition has been announced for scientific positions
The Scientific Council of the Niko Muskhelishvili Institute of Computational Mathematics of the Georgian Technical University announces an open competition to fill the following scientific positions:
Department of Mathematical Modeling: Head of Department – 1.0 staff unit.
Department of Artificial Intelligence: Head of Department – 0.5 staff unit, Chief Researcher – 0.5 staff unit.
Applications will be accepted from March 18 to March 20, 2026, from 11:00 to 15:00, at the following address: Tbilisi, 4 Grigol Peradze Street, Niko Muskhelishvili Institute of Computational Mathematics, Room N201. Contact person: Nino Bokuchava, Tel: 595 65 80 27.
The interview and voting for the candidate(s) to be elected to the vacant position of Head of Department will be held on March 25, 2026, by the Institute’s Scientific Council. The voting results will be announced by the Scientific Council immediately after the completion of the voting on March 25, posted in a visible place in the Institute, and published on the Institute’s website.
The Competition Commission will conduct the competition for the vacant position of Chief Researcher on March 24, 2026. The preliminary results of the competition will be announced by the Competition Commission no later than March 24, 2026, posted in a visible place in the Institute, and published on the Institute’s website.
Statements/complaints regarding violations of the competition procedures will be accepted by the Scientific Council/Competition Commission until March 30, 2026.

II. Competition Conditions
Main conditions of the competition:
1. A person who meets the requirements established for the position of Chief Researcher or Senior Researcher of the Institute may be elected as the head of a scientific structural unit of the Institute. If a person does not hold the position of Chief Researcher or Senior Researcher of the Institute, in the event of being elected as the head of a scientific structural unit of the Institute, they shall also be considered elected to the corresponding scientific position.
2. The position of Chief Researcher may be held by a person who has a doctoral or equivalent academic degree, at least 6 years of experience in scientific-research activity (which includes not only work in a scientific position in a scientific-research, higher educational, or other specialized institution, but also published scientific publications), scientific publications published or accepted for publication within the last 5 years, including at least one publication in an impact-factor (Web of Science) journal, and among the remaining publications at least three published in journals indexed in Scopus.
A person will be elected to the positions of Chief Researcher and Head of Department for a term of 5 years.
A person wishing to participate in the competition must personally (or through a representative) submit:
a) A properly completed and signed application and questionnaire (forms will be published on the Institute’s website), as well as documentation confirming the information provided therein: diploma, certificate, testimonial, award certificate, reference, etc. (original and copy);
b) A document confirming the scientific/academic degree (original and copy);
c) A document/documents confirming scientific-research experience (length of service), certified with the seal of the relevant organization/institution;
d) A list of scientific and educational-methodological works, certified by the signature and seal of a competent person of the relevant institution/organization or its structural unit. In the list, journals with an impact factor (Web of Science) must be marked with the abbreviation “IF”, and journals indexed in Scopus must be marked with the abbreviation “SJR”;
e) ID card (original and photocopy);
f) 2 photographs 3×4;
g) A certificate of criminal record regarding crimes against sexual freedom and inviolability, and a certificate of deprivation of rights.
Note: A person who has already submitted the above-mentioned certificates to the University’s Human Capital Management Department is exempt from submitting them again.
III. Procedure for Conducting the Competition
- The competition will be conducted in accordance with the Law of Georgia “On Higher Education”, the University Charter, and the “Rules for the Employment of Scientific Personnel at the Niko Muskhelishvili Institute of Computational Mathematics”, which the contestant may review at the Scientific Council, the Competition Commission, and on the University and Institute websites;
- The Scientific Council/Competition Commission will take into account: the compliance of the contestant’s qualifications and competence with the competition position, including scientific-research, practical, and other activities relevant to the profile of the competition position, achievements, qualifications, experience, and merits; as well as (by decision of the Scientific Council/Competition Commission) the results of the interview conducted with the contestant(s);
- The results of the competition may be appealed in court in accordance with the current legislation.
