In the Drilling Fluids Laboratory, students can observe the preparation process of clay-based drilling fluids, as well as measure their key properties before chemical treatment. These properties include: bulk density, apparent and dynamic viscosity, static shear strength of the drilling fluid, filtration, hydrogen ion concentration, and sand content. Afterward, particular attention is given to measuring the same parameters after the clay fluid has been treated with chemical reagents and weighting agents, as these treatments affect the characteristic properties of the drilling fluid.
