Grinding Workshop–Laboratory

The grinding workshop was established in 1955 and was modernized in October 2023.

The workshop–laboratory for preparing thin sections and polished sections required for laboratory studies of rocks, ores, and minerals is equipped — with the support of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology — with European-standard Metkon Geoform 102 and Metkon Forcipol machines.

In 2023, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology provided the Georgian Technical University with equipment for the thin and polished section preparation laboratory within the framework of the DAAD project “Sustainable Development Project in the Caucasus.”

The thin and polished section laboratory is staffed by specialists certified by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
