ABET is a signatory of the Washington Accord, so graduates of ABET-accredited engineering programs are recognized in all member countries of the agreement (including the USA, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom) — which makes it easier to find work abroad or continue studies.
Accreditation confirms that the program has appropriate laboratories, qualified lecturers and a modern, learning-outcomes-based curriculum.
Many leading global companies and government agencies (especially in the USA and Europe) give preference to, or directly require, a diploma from an ABET-accredited program.
To obtain an official engineering license in the USA (Professional Engineer — PE), an ABET-accredited education is in most cases required.
