“Georgia Cup in Chess Among Universities – 2026” – The GTU Chess Team Is the Silver Medalist of the Tournament

The student team of the Georgian Technical University is one of the winners of the Georgia Cup in Chess among Universities. The GTU team secured second place in the tournament, earning the corresponding trophy and silver medals.

The tournament, “Georgia Cup in Chess among Universities – 2026,” was held for the first time and was hosted by the Georgian State University of Sport. The student sporting event was conducted with the financial support of the Youth Agency and brought together students from 12 authorized higher education institutions across Georgia.

The Rector congratulates the silver medalist chess team of the Georgian Technical University on their achievement. As Academician David Gurgenidze notes, this success once again confirms that the Georgian Technical University fosters not only engineering, technical, and technological fields, but also various sports disciplines, including intellectual sports.

“The trophy and silver medals won by our chess team are the result of great effort, discipline, love for their home university, and team spirit. For your information, first place in the tournament – “Georgia Cup in Chess among Universities – 2026” – was claimed by the team of the Georgian State University of Sport, while third place was secured by the team of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
