GTU Rector expresses grief over the death of Tariel Chanturia

The Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Chairman of the Standing Conference of Rectors of Georgia, Academician David Gurgenidze, on behalf of the scientific and academic circles of the university, expresses his grief over the death of the outstanding poet Tariel Chanturia and extends condolences to his family, relatives, the Georgian literary community and numerous readers.

“Georgian literature has lost a beloved, distinguished creator, who, with his original vision and special handwriting, established a new word and a new style in Georgian poetry.

He “ran into this world for a minute”, loved in Georgian, hated in Georgian, believed in Georgian, wrote in Georgian, and thus turned this one minute into a century. He left us surprisingly sincere and distinctive poetry, which gave the word a new sound, a new rhythm, and a special expressiveness. His poems will live forever, because a true poet never leaves us – his life continues in the rhymes of his poems.

He left, taking with him the heaviest pain – its name is Irakli Chanturia. It was after this immeasurable tragedy that he wrote a will turned into a poem, in which he seemed to foretell his fate: “I will go easily without a pantheon / Let others in Didube have my share / What is better when father and son lie eternally / Side by side.”

Our condolences to the family of Tariel Chanturia, his friends, the Georgian literary community, and his numerous readers – we share their great pain. Eternal kingdom to the beloved poet and his precious son.”
