GTU professor, along with world-leading scientists, participated in the International Congress of Mathematicians – ICM 2026 – in Philadelphia
It is noteworthy that the congress is held once every four years and discusses many areas of modern mathematics. Its goal is to present the latest scientific results and discuss the future development directions of the field. It is noteworthy that some of these scientists themselves lead the most important projects or institutes of the International Mathematical Society. For example, Carlos Koenig is a former president of the International Union of Mathematicians (IMU), and Tamar Ziegler is a member of the IMU Executive Committee for 2023–2026.
The International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM 2026), one of the world’s most prestigious gatherings in mathematics, was hosted at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Professor David Natroshvili of the Georgian Technical University participated in the congress and presented a paper entitled “Mixed Initial-Boundary-Transmission Problems for Complex Multi-Layered Structures” in the Differential Equations section.
During the congress, Professor David Natroshvili had the opportunity to meet and discuss recent scientific results with several internationally renowned mathematicians. Among them were Terence Tao, Carlos E. Kenig, Ingrid Daubechies, Nima Anari, Tamar Ziegler, Feng Xu, Rémi Rhodes, and Ulrike Tillmann, as well as other prominent researchers.
“The congress is held every four years, and its program covered many areas of modern mathematics. Its goal was to present the latest scientific results and discuss future directions in the field’s development. It is noteworthy that some of the participating scientists themselves lead major projects or hold leading positions within the International Mathematical Union. For example, Carlos E. Kenig is a former President of the International Mathematical Union (IMU), while Tamar Ziegler served as the IMU Executive Committee member for the 2023–2026 term.
The discussions and professional meetings held as part of the Congress were especially significant, as they foster opportunities to deepen international scientific collaboration and explore new avenues of research. The participation of Georgian scientists in such forums contributes both to the international recognition of the achievements of individual scientific institutions – in this case, the Georgian Technical University – and to the establishment of new partnerships for the Georgian mathematical school.”
– Professor David Natroshvili
The participation of Professor David Natroshvili, Head of the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, in ICM 2026 represents an important contribution to the international visibility of the Georgian mathematical school. His many years of scientific work have focused on mathematical physics, elasticity theory, and differential equations. His research includes the study of mixed boundary-transmission problems in composite and layered anisotropic structures, using the potential method and the theory of pseudodifferential equations.
