Memorandum of Cooperation between GTU and the Land Transport Agency has been renewed

Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Tamar Tsereteli and Director of the LEPL Land Transport Agency Bakur Mikadze signed a renewed memorandum of cooperation between the university and the agency.

It is noteworthy that, along with the memorandum, the parties signed a “Practice Agreement”, the purpose of which is to provide an applied component for the new master’s program – “Services of Transport Processes” developed at the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering of the Georgian Technical University.

According to the Dean of the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering, the educational program was created as a result of joint work of the Land Transport Agency and the academic staff of the Georgian Technical University. Associate Professor Boris Githolendia states that at this stage the program is undergoing accreditation procedures stipulated by Georgian legislation.

“The transport sector is one of the main cornerstones of Georgia’s economic development and utilization of its transit potential. Modern technological progress, environmental standards, and new road safety regulations require the training of highly qualified personnel equipped with modern knowledge and practical skills. The ongoing education reform in the country responds to these challenges, the main thrust of which involves the close integration of higher education with the real economy, labor market, and state sectoral institutions. Deepening the partnership between the Georgian Technical University and the Land Transport Agency is an important and precedent-setting step in this direction. Cooperation provides an opportunity to significantly strengthen practice-based learning. Students of the new master’s program – “Services of Transport Processes”, along with theoretical knowledge, will gain practical experience directly at the Land Transport Agency. In addition, our academic staff will continue to develop and offer short and long-term educational and certification programs for the agency’s employees, taking into account modern trends in the field. In parallel, the parties will work on joint scientific and research projects aimed at improving the operation, efficiency, road safety and implementation of modern technologies in road transport.

According to the Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University, close cooperation between the academic sector and state agencies creates a solid foundation for the development of the field.

As Professor Tamar Tsereteli notes, the partnership between the university and the Land Transport Agency reflects the parties’ shared vision for sustainable development.

According to him, the renewed agreement signed between the university and the Land Transport Agency once again confirms that the joint working process of state institutions and a leading engineering school ensures stable, innovative and sustainable development of the transport sector.

“It is particularly important for the Georgian Technical University that students, along with theoretical knowledge, have the opportunity to gain practical experience based on a real work environment. Cooperation with the Land Transport Agency serves this very purpose. Within the framework of the new master’s program, students will be able to apply the knowledge gained during the study process in practice and develop professional skills directly in the field of transport. It is important for us that the cooperation between the university and leading institutions in the field is further strengthened and contributes to the training of qualified personnel tailored to the demands of the labor market.”
