The Rector of the Georgian Technical University expresses condolences on the passing of the distinguished scientist and educator, Professor Vazha Geleishvili


The Rector of the Georgian Technical University and Chairman of the Standing Conference of Rectors of Georgia, Academician David Gurgenidze, on behalf of the university community, expresses his deep sorrow over the passing of the distinguished scientist and educator, professor at the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Sustainable Development, laureate of the Alexandre Tvalchrelidze Prize of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, and member of the Georgian Academy of Engineering – Vazha Geleishvili – and offers his condolences to his family, relatives, colleagues, and students.

“Professor Vazha Geleishvili, a distinguished scientist and outstanding educator of the Georgian Technical University, passed away at the age of 86. He was a mentor to generations of engineering geologists and researchers, and his many years of scientific, educational, and professional work were organically tied to the Georgian Technical University and to the development of the field of geology in the country.

His contribution to applied geology and the study of mineral resources, and to the advancement of modern approaches in these fields, was exceptional. Through his high professionalism and scientific authority, he made a significant contribution both to Georgian science and to the professional training and personal development of specialists across many generations. In the international educational and research arena, Professor Vazha Geleishvili worthily represented Georgia and his alma mater.

On behalf of the Georgian Technical University and its academic and scientific community, we express condolences to the family, relatives, colleagues, and students of Mr. Vazha Geleishvili, as well as to the professors, staff, and students of the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Sustainable Development. We honor the scientific legacy of our distinguished professor and his outstanding contribution to the university and the country.”
