“Science for the Development of Georgia’s Regions – 2026” – GTU Participates in Regional Science Festival
The Regional Science Festival is an important event for fostering an interest in research among young people and deepening cooperation between academic institutions. Science must extend beyond university lecture halls and laboratories, moving closer to the general public, school students, and prospective university entrants. Such initiatives are instrumental in developing critical and innovative thinking, uncovering scientific potential, and engaging future researchers. For Georgian Technical University, promoting science and innovation and advancing research activities is a top priority. The participation of our university’s faculties, research institutes, and centers once again highlights the opportunities the academic and scientific community creates for the country’s development. Furthermore, the regional scope of the festival facilitates the exchange of experience among universities and… strengthening the partnership,” stated Professor Tamar Tsereteli, Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University, in Telavi, at the closing event of the festival “Science for the Development of Georgia’s Regions – 2026”.
Supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, a regional science festival titled “Science for the Development of Georgia’s Regions – 2026” took place in Georgia from September 15 to October 15. As part of this large-scale scientific and educational initiative, the Georgian Technical University actively participated, showcasing its research activities, innovative focus areas, and academic potential to the public. The festival aimed to popularize science, share researchers’ achievements with the broader community, and—most importantly—foster interest in scientific pursuits among the younger generation. A key objective was to encourage innovative approaches, support research focused on the Black Sea region, and promote the concept of developing a “blue economy”. The festival also fostered interest among university and school students in scientific research, modern technologies, and innovation-driven development opportunities.
According to the GTU Vice-Rector, the university’s participation in the festival was a key part of its scientific research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and efforts to bring science closer to the public. As Professor Tamar Tsereteli notes, the university’s faculties, research institutes, and centers took part in the festival under the coordination of the GTU Department of Science and Innovation. Their participation showcased the university’s scientific and research expertise. Tamar Tsereteli stated that the festival’s format facilitated deeper communication among scientific institutions, higher education organizations, researchers, and young people.
“Particularly noteworthy is the festival’s focus on Black Sea research and the concept of developing a “blue economy”. These areas are significant for deepening scientific research, contributing sustainable development, promoting the responsible use of natural resources, and implementing innovative approaches.
We are glad that the Georgian Technical University participated in this important scientific and educational initiative. We thank the festival organizers and the participating universities for their cooperation. The certificate of gratitude that Samtskhe-Javakheti State University presented to the Georgian Technical University is not only a source of pride for us, but also a motivation to continue working closely with partner universities to promote science and develop innovations.
– Professor Tamar Tsereteli
