Public Lecture by Dr. Shahab Yasrobi, Geotechnical Engineering Expert and International Consultant at GTU
Georgian Technical University hosted a public lecture by Dr. Shahab Yasrobi, a professional geotechnical engineer, international consultant, tunneling specialist, and President of the Canadian company “Geomaple Geotechnics Inc” (GGI), held for the students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
During the public lecture, Dr. Yasrobi discussed in detail how hybrid State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) systems can reduce the risk of failure.
During the public lecture, Dr. Yasrobi explored contemporary geotechnical challenges and innovative solutions, supported by visual materials. He presented real-world examples of complex underground projects implemented in Canada and other leading countries. The presentation provided a detailed overview of errors encountered during tunnel construction and their respective prevention mechanisms. The speaker placed special emphasis on cutting-edge soil stabilization methods that significantly reduce engineering risks. Through visual diagrams, students familiarized themselves with the real-time operation of digital monitoring equipment. The lecture clearly demonstrated to the students the critical importance of synthesizing theoretical knowledge with practical experience in modern infrastructure construction.
As noted by Professor Zurab Gvishiani, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at GTU, Dr. Shahab Yasrobi possesses extensive international engineering experience, which he enthusiastically shared with the students. According to him, meeting with experts of such caliber represents a unique opportunity for young professionals.
“Dr. Shahab Yasrobi brings 37 years of international experience in deep excavations, urban tunneling, ground improvement, piling and structural retention systems, slope stability, engineering-geological investigations, quality control, instrumentation and monitoring, as well as underground infrastructure development. Furthermore, his expertise spans academic research, engineering design, construction, and technical risk management. Dr. Yasrobi has lectured and delivered technical seminars at various universities, actively participating in international scientific conferences across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
This public lecture is highly important and valuable for our students, as it helps them gain a deeper understanding of international engineering standards. Such engagements significantly contribute to their professional growth, boost their motivation, and provide practical insights — ultimately ensuring the competitiveness of young specialists and researchers in both local and global markets. Our goal is to provide future engineers with access to the latest advancements, and learning from the expertise of professionals like Dr. Yasrobi is the most effective path toward enhancing their professional competence.”
– Professor Zurab Gvishiani
Following the public lecture, the session continued with an interactive Q&A segment. Students actively engaged by inquiring about safety standards for underground structures and posing questions regarding ongoing major infrastructure projects.
Dr. Yasrobi provided comprehensive answers to each question, shared practical recommendations with the students, and wished them success in their future professional endeavors.
