The Rector of GTU Congratulates Major General, Academician Elguja Medzmariashvili on His 80th Birthday
Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, on behalf of the university community, congratulates Major General, Academician Elguja Medzmariashvili on his 80th birthday and wishes him good health, longevity, creative and scientific successes, and continued active and fruitful work in the education of new generations and the development of Georgian science.

On behalf of the academic community of the Georgian Technical University, we congratulate you on your 80th anniversary!
Today is an opportunity for us to once again thank you for the scientific, military engineering and state path that you have followed, each stage of which is connected with the history of the development of Georgian science, education and defense capabilities.
The name of Elguja Medzmariashvili, a Georgian scientist and military figure, Doctor of Military and Technical Sciences, Professor, Major General and Academician of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, is associated with a special sense of responsibility and pride with the Georgian Technical University and the Georgian Engineering School, which we serve to this day.
The launch of a Georgian space object into orbit on July 23, 1999 is a very important event in the scientific and technological history of our country. After its deployment and testing, on July 28, the object’s launch into orbit Once again, the scale of knowledge, experience and responsibility that the vocational school you established at the Georgian Technical University possessed under your leadership was demonstrated.
When assessing your work, it is impossible not to mention the state recognition that you have earned in different years. You are a holder of the highest state military award, the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasali, 1st degree; you are awarded the Order of Honor for the creation of the ground-based stand complex of space systems in Georgia and its survival and maintenance in special conditions; you are the owner of the medal of the Laureate of the State Prize of Georgia for achievements in space mechanics, as well as the medals – “For Labor Courage” and “For Combat Merit”, as well as the highest award of the Georgian Technical University, the Giorgi Nikoladze Medal. Your merit is also noted with medals from nine departmental and international organizations.
Recognition of your achievements has another important dimension – the love and respect of society. You are an honorary citizen of Mtskheta, Tbilisi and Batumi. These titles express the trust and respect that society shows to those people who have dedicated their knowledge and the best years of their lives to serving the country.
The certificate of the Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia, which was presented to you for your participation in the construction of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi, is also of particular importance.

Your activities have shown us that even a small country can create a great scientific concept, implement a complex technological project and establish its place in the world of high technology. It is a great honor for the Georgian Technical University that our academic community includes a person whose name is associated with the most important stages of the development of Georgian space technology. Your experience, your scientific vision and the attitude with which you have always served the education and professional formation of the younger generation are especially valuable to us.
