GTU Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, Expresses His Condolences to the Family and Colleagues on the Passing of Elene Abashidze


On behalf of the university community, the Rector of Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, expresses his deep sorrow over the passing of the renowned scientist, Doctor of Geology and Mineralogy, Elene Abashidze, and extends his heartfelt condolences to her family, relatives, students, and colleagues.

“In the person of Mrs. Elene, the Georgian scientific community and higher education system have lost an outstanding researcher who dedicated her entire life and creative energy to the development and advancement of the fields of geology and mineralogy. Her fundamental scientific works and contributions constitute an invaluable legacy for our country.

Her contribution to educating generations of specialists is equally remarkable. As an exceptional teacher, she paved the way for many young people in their professional careers, mentoring highly qualified specialists and researchers who today successfully work in hydrogeology, mineralogy, and engineering geology. Within the scientific and academic community, the memory of Mrs. Elene will always remain a symbol of the highest academic ethics, professionalism, and humanity.

For information: Elene Abashidze was the author of 540 scientific publications and 13,200 experiments. She made a significant contribution to the study of the hydrochemical and hydrodynamic mechanisms of water movement in limestone fractures within reservoir foundations. Her scientific research received recognition both in Georgia and internationally. Her doctoral dissertation was recognized as one of the best by the International Biographical Institute of the United States of America, and she was awarded the honorary title of “Woman of the Year.”
