GTU Rector congratulates Professor Shengeli Pitskhelauri on his 80th anniversary and on the award of a prestigious international judo award
The Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Chairman of the Standing Conference of Rectors of Georgia, Academician David Gurgenidze, on behalf of the university community, congratulates the distinguished researcher of the Faculty of Law and International Relations of GTU, member of the Dissertation Council, famous jurist, distinguished teacher and educator of many students, holder of the Order of Honor and the medal “For Combat Merit”, Vice-President of the Georgian National Judo Federation and internationally recognized athlete, Major General, Professor Shengeli Pitskhelauri on his 80th birthday and on the award of one of the highest international qualification degrees in judo – Congratulations on being awarded the 8th Dan.
One of the pioneers and legends of Georgian judo, a multiple winner of European and world international tournaments, Professor Shengeli Pitskhelauri, was presented with a prestigious award by Dr. Laszlo Toth, Vice-President of the IJF and President of the European Judo Union (EJU), on behalf of Marius Visser, President of the International Judo Federation (IJF). The awarding of the legendary athlete took place at a festive event dedicated to his 80th anniversary.
According to the GTU rector, Professor Shengeli Pitskhelauri is the first Georgian judoka to be awarded a highly prestigious degree for his exceptional contribution to the development of this sport.
“This important international recognition once again emphasizes the exceptional contribution of Professor Shengeli Pitskhelauri. In parallel with his many years of academic activity, Mr. Shengeli is a living legend of Georgian judo. He is an international-class athlete, coach, and sports organizer who has devoted decades to advancing Georgian judo and enhancing its international reputation with distinction and integrity. It is precisely this outstanding contribution, the brilliant results achieved in the international arena, and the special contribution made to the development of judo that is recognized by the highly honorable award presented to him by the International Judo Federation. Professor Shengeli Pitskhelauri has become the first Georgian judoka to hold the 8th Dan!
Mr. Shengel is a worthy representative of our university. A well-known jurist, distinguished scientist and teacher, with his professionalism and extensive experience, makes a significant contribution to strengthening the Faculty of Law and International Relations at Georgian Technical University and to the education of new generations. His decades of educational, research, and public service stand as a model of professionalism and civic responsibility for countless students and aspiring lawyers.
