An internal university project, “GTU Student Games 2026”, has been launched at the Georgian Technical University

“Learning is the foundation of human development, and sport is an essential companion to this process. Education provides knowledge, cultivates analytical thinking, and teaches us to understand events and make sound decisions. Sport, meanwhile, teaches us how to set goals, fosters discipline and patience, instills belief in one’s own capabilities, and helps us overcome challenges. Both pursuits require hard work, consistency, and continuous development. In this sense, academic and athletic activities complement one another, helping young people develop the skills necessary for success,” stated Academician David Gurgenidze, Rector of the Georgian Technical University, at the opening event of the “GTU Student Games 2026.”

At the Georgian Technical University, the Department of Student Services, Culture, and Sports has launched an internal university project titled “GTU Student Games 2026”. The opening event took place at the “Lisi Le Mans” venue. It aimed to enliven student life, promote a healthy lifestyle among young people, and strengthen cooperation within the university community.

According to the Head of the Department of Student Services, Culture, and Sports at GTU, the project aims to create diverse opportunities for students to showcase their athletic, intellectual, and creative skills, compete in various events, and demonstrate both individual capability and teamwork. Levan Pipia notes that activities organized across faculties will foster healthy competition, help establish an environment of mutual respect, and strengthen friendly relations among students.

“Students enrolled in undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degree programs at the Georgian Technical University are eligible to participate in the “GTU Student Games 2026”. The project brings students together in a shared space, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their capabilities. Spanning more than a month, the Student Games will encompass a variety of athletic, intellectual, and cultural-creative activities. The program’s diverse nature will allow participants to compete in various events, test their abilities, exchange experiences, and help foster a culture of teamwork across faculties.

The digital management of the Georgian Technical University tournament will be handled entirely via the Gamo platform. Gamo is a Georgian tech startup that is building a digital ecosystem for amateur sports, bringing together players, sports facilities, and competitions on a single platform. Participants and fans can view game schedules, results, and tournament standings at gamo.ge. The accumulated results will form the teams’ athletic history and serve as a basis for analyzing their progress.”

According to the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, sports, intellectual, and creative events held outside the formal academic process foster responsibility, discipline, teamwork, and communication skills among the youth. As Academician David Gurgenidze notes, these activities provide students with the opportunity to get to know one another better, build new relationships, and strengthen their ties to the university community.

“GTU Student Games 2026” is a significant platform to showcase your potential, gain new experiences, and get to know each other better. This project brings together students from various faculties and educational levels of the Georgian Technical University, creating a space where each of you can demonstrate your individual talents and capabilities.

I would like to particularly highlight the importance of friendly relations and cooperation among the faculties. We are all members of one large university community, regardless of which faculty we study in or which professional field we choose. Shared goals, mutual respect, and support for one another strengthen our university and create an environment in which every student has greater opportunities for self-realization.

Georgian Technical University will continue to support initiatives that foster students’ multifaceted development, unlock young people’s potential, and strengthen a healthy university environment.

In conclusion, I would like to wish each of you success in your studies, sports, creative endeavors, and all other significant undertakings in life!”

– Academician David Gurgenidze

“GTU Student Games 2026” will span two months and involve more than 2,000 students.
