XII International Scientific-Practical Conference Opens at GTU
The XII International Scientific-Practical Conference, titled “The Development of Mining and Geology as a Prerequisite for Economic Revival”, has opened at the Georgian Technical University. The Georgian Mineralogical Society, the Grigol Tsulukidze Mining Institute, the Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology, and GTU are organizing the event.
The two-day conference aims to address current issues in mining and geology, facilitate the exchange of scientific research and practical experience, define future development prospects for the sector, and highlight the importance of using mineral resources efficiently to strengthen the country’s economy.
The conference, which brings together Georgian and international scientists, researchers, and industry specialists, was opened by the Chairman (President) of the Supervisory Board of the Georgian Technical University.
Professor Zurab Gudavadze said that developing the mining and geology sectors is particularly important for strengthening the country’s economic potential and ensuring the rational use of natural resources. According to him, such international scientific-practical conferences facilitate sharing knowledge and experience accumulated in the field, introducing modern scientific approaches, and deepening international cooperation.
“Mining and geology constitute one of the key foundations for a country’s economic development. Georgia has significant mineral resource potential; using it effectively and responsibly requires modern scientific knowledge, technological advancement, and highly qualified specialists. It is particularly important to take environmental issues into account and to introduce modern technologies during the process of utilizing natural resources. I am confident that this conference will foster professional dialogue, showcase new scientific ideas, and strengthen international cooperation. I want to thank the organizers, participants, and supporters, and I wish the conference a successful session.”
– Professor Zurab Gudavadze
Joni Shubitidze, Executive Director of the supporting company RMG, attended the conference. He said that developing the mining and geological sectors is strategically important to the country’s economic progress, and that sustainable development in the field requires implementing modern technologies, promoting scientific research, and sharing expertise among professionals.
According to the company, RMG – as an entity operating in the mining sector – places special emphasis on the development of the field and on collaboration with academic circles. For many years, the company has maintained an active partnership with Georgian Technical University, supporting students’ professional development and employment. Furthermore, it awards scholarships to high-achieving students, thereby fostering their motivation for academic and professional advancement. RMG prioritizes initiatives that strengthen the scientific and practical potential of mining and geology, while also facilitating the training of qualified young professionals for the sector.
The conference’s core themes include pressing issues in mining and geology, the role of mineral resources in strengthening the national economy, natural hazards and environmental protection, modern mining technologies, and geology and geophysics.
Within the framework of the event, participants can share research results and discuss ways to address the challenges facing the industry. Materials will be published as theses, and participants will receive certificates.
RMG is the supporter of the conference.
