The GTU Rector expresses condolences to the family and colleagues of Professor Irina Badagadze

On behalf of the university community, the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, expresses his deep sorrow over the passing of Georgian scientist, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, and former GTU Chancellor Irina Badagadze and extends his heartfelt condolences to her family and colleagues.

“On behalf of the Georgian Technical University, we express our deep sorrow over the passing of Irina Badagadze, a distinguished scientist, dedicated educator, and accomplished administrator.

Mrs. Badagadze devoted a long and fruitful professional and academic career to the Georgian Technical University, where she made an enduring contribution through her extensive administrative work. Her tenure as the University’s Chancellor was especially significant. Irina Badagadze was the first Chancellor of the Georgian Technical University and assumed this responsibility during one of the most difficult periods in the institution’s history. The 1990s were marked by severe socioeconomic and political upheaval in Georgia. Social hardships, an energy crisis, financial instability, and extremely difficult living conditions directly affected the University community. Guiding the institution through this period demanded remarkable resilience, professionalism, and steadfast commitment.

During these turbulent years, Irina Badagadze led the University with determination and vision. Her tenure as Chancellor was defined by her tireless efforts to safeguard the institution’s survival and continued progress.

Irina Badagadze will remain in the history of the Georgian Technical University as its first Chancellor and as a person who assumed immense responsibility during one of the most difficult periods in the University’s history.
