At the Georgian Technical University, on the initiative and organization of the Department of Software Engineering of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems and the UNESCO Chair of GTU, a scientific forum – “Modern Trends in the Development of Digital Technologies” was held.

The forum was dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the birth of the former rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician Gocha Chogovadze, and the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Software Engineering (formerly the Department of Automated Control Systems).

The scientific event was attended by the university’s academic and scientific circles, students, graduates, specialists, and experts in the field. The forum was also attended by the son of Academician Gocha Chogovadze, politician and financier Irakli Chogovadze, coordinator of the UNESCO Chair at GTU; international expert in cultural policy, cultural studies, and higher artistic education, theater scholar Professor Levan Khetaguri, and the chief director of the Rustaveli Theater, president of the Georgian Center of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute (ITI), David Sakvarelidze.

The forum, within the framework of which the modern challenges of the development of digital technologies, innovative approaches, prospects for the growth of artificial intelligence, software engineering, and information systems were discussed, was opened by the Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University.

As Professor Tamar Lominadze stated, the history of the development of automated control systems and software engineering in Georgia is closely connected with the name of Academician Gocha Chogovadze. According to her, Gocha Chogovadze created an important school that has educated several successful scientists and specialists.

The world today is at a new stage of development, where digital technologies have become a determining factor in technical progress, economic, educational, scientific, and social development of states. Artificial intelligence, big data analysis, cybersecurity, software engineering, automated control systems, and digital communications create a reality that requires constant updating, interdisciplinary cooperation, and the development of innovative visions from the academic space. In this context, forums that bring together scientists, researchers, specialists in the field, and young people acquire special importance in order to understand modern technological trends, share experiences, and determine strategic directions for future development. The special importance of the forum is also determined by the fact that it is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the birth of Academician Gocha Chogovadze and the 55th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Software Engineering.

Gocha Chogovadze’s name occupies a prominent place in the history of Georgian engineering and computer science. He was a scientist who made a significant contribution to the development of automated control systems, software engineering, and information technologies. His scientific work was based not only on high professionalism and fundamental knowledge, but also on the ability to formulate modern technological visions. Gocha Chogovadze created a strong scientific school that educated many successful researchers and engineers. His role in shaping the young generation into professionals is especially important. It is precisely these values that underlie the Department of Software Engineering at our university, which has been serving the training of highly qualified specialists and the development of technological sciences for 55 years.”
