The Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Georgia, His Excellency Nikolai Rogashchuk, and discussed with him the possibilities of future cooperation with Belarusian higher education institutions.
The introductory meeting was attended by the Chancellor of the University, Professor Karlo Kopaliani, the President of the GTU Supervisory Board, Professor Zurab Gudavadze, the Vice-Rector, Professor Tamar Tsereteli, the Head of the Department of International Relations, Tea Murvanidze, as well as the Advisor to the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus, Irina Zubko, and the Head of the TV Company “Belarus 24”, Pavel Lozovik.
As David Gurgenidze and Nikolai Rogashchuk noted, the partnership between the Georgian Technical University and higher educational institutions in Belarus with a technical and technological focus will deepen educational and research cooperation between the two countries, allowing the parties to jointly introduce new technologies and innovations.
According to the rector, in terms of engineering technologies, the Georgian Technical University holds a leading position in the South Caucasus region. Its scientists and research groups are involved in both fundamental and applied research, actively participating in important international projects and global experiments taking place at the world’s largest scientific centers.
“The Georgian Technical University, which is one of the oldest and largest in the South Caucasus region, has scientists of engineering and technological directions, highly qualified specialists, promising young researchers, and motivated students. Our scientific and academic staff actively cooperate with major international research organizations and centers, such as CERN in Switzerland, KEK and J-Parc in Japan, FERMILAB in the USA, the Jülich Research Center, and we have close contacts with leading universities in Germany, Italy, France, and other European countries. In view of the above, multilateral collaboration with Belarusian technical and technological universities, Belarusian colleagues, is also important for the Georgian Technical University. Our university is constantly developing laboratory bases and has an excellent educational and scientific infrastructure. We express our readiness to use the university infrastructure and opportunities for successful collaboration and educational purposes. We believe that the scientific and academic circles of the engineering and technological directions of the two countries will jointly introduce innovations, work on new research projects, and exchange programs, in which students and professors of our two countries will be involved. We will be glad if, with your support and mediation, the foundation for a new close partnership with Belarusian universities is laid”, said Rector David Gurgenidze.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus thanked the Rector and the University for their readiness for partnership. As he noted, the cooperation of Belarusian universities with the Georgian Technical University will make relations between the two countries much more multifaceted. According to Nikolai Rogashchuk, Belarus is interested in the joint development of priority engineering fields, which will bring positive results for both countries.
One of the participants in the meeting, the head of the TV company “Belarus 24”, Pavel Lozovik, expressed interest in creating an internship opportunity for students of the Media Technologies and Journalism Department of the Georgian Technical University at the TV company and implementing new television projects with the joint involvement of Georgian and Belarusian youth. According to him, such cooperation will promote the sharing of professional experience, familiarization with modern media standards, and the development of practical skills for students.
As the rector noted in response, joint media projects will strengthen cultural and professional ties between the two countries and will give the youth the opportunity to create successful examples of international cooperation in the media field.
After meeting with the rector, the Belarusian guests toured the rich book collection and educational and research infrastructure of the Niko Muskhelishvili Library of the Georgian Technical University.
