GTU delegation held a working visit to Jan Dlugosz University in Poland within the framework of the KATAMARAN – MedTech Bridge project

With the active participation of the Georgian Technical University delegation, working meetings were held at Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa, Poland, within the framework of the KATAMARAN – MedTech Bridge project funded by NAWA (the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange).

The GTU delegation, led by Vice-Rector Professor Tamar Lominadze, included Professor Taliko Zhvania, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems; Professor Irine Gotsiridze, Head of the University Center for International Accreditation and the English-language Educational Program in Biomedical Engineering; and Professor Zviad Ghurtskaya, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The delegation was hosted by Professor Marcin Sosnowski, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Internationalization of Jan Długosz University, Dr. Karolina Grabowska, and representatives of the university’s academic and administrative staff.

As the Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University states, the KATAMARAN – MedTech Bridge project, funded by NAWA, is an international initiative of particular importance to the university, marking a new stage of cooperation with the European academic community in the fields of biomedical engineering and medical technologies. According to Professor Tamar Lominadze, working meetings were held with the university leadership, professors and researchers from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, representatives of the International Relations Office and the Welcome Centre, as well as members of the COLOURS European Universities Alliance. The meetings focused on the implementation stages of the KATAMARAN – MedTech Bridge project, its main objectives, expected outcomes, the roles of the partner universities, and future directions of cooperation.

“The Georgian Technical University consistently pursues an internationalization policy, one of the main priorities of which is the development of long-term partnerships with leading European universities, the creation of joint educational programs, and the strengthening of international scientific cooperation. In this regard, the KATAMARAN – MedTech Bridge project is of particular importance, as it brings together the fields of education, science, and innovation that form the strategic foundation for the development of modern higher education and research.

The meetings held at Jan Długosz University provided an important opportunity to discuss in detail the stages of project implementation, the roles of the partner universities, and specific mechanisms for future cooperation. Special attention was devoted to the prospects of developing a joint English-language Master’s program in Biomedical and Medical Engineering, which will provide students with an opportunity to receive education in accordance with international standards while studying in a multicultural academic environment.

We also place great emphasis on expanding the international mobility of academic staff and students, implementing joint research projects, and sharing modern teaching methodologies and research practices. Such cooperation creates a solid foundation for knowledge transfer between universities, the development of an innovative educational ecosystem, and active integration into European research networks.

I am confident that the MedTech Bridge project will not only strengthen the international academic standing of the Georgian Technical University but will also contribute to educating a new generation of highly qualified specialists in biomedical engineering, which is an important prerequisite for the development of both the national higher education system and the country’s innovative and technological progress.”

During the visit, the Georgian Technical University delegation gained in-depth insight into Jan Długosz University’s internationalization strategy, its approaches to working with international students, support systems for foreign students, and the initiatives of the Welcome Centre. Special attention was paid to effective models for student adaptation, academic integration, and the promotion of international mobility. In addition, during meetings with representatives of the COLOURS European Universities Alliance, the parties discussed prospects for expanding multilateral international cooperation, participation in joint educational and research initiatives, and the development of partnerships within European university networks.

The delegation also toured the university’s Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, Collegium Medicum, state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories, and student residential campus, gaining insight into the university’s educational, research, and student infrastructure, which meets modern international standards for teaching and research.

At the conclusion of the meetings, both parties expressed great appreciation for the outcomes of the visit and reaffirmed their commitment to fostering long-term institutional cooperation within the framework of the KATAMARAN – MedTech Bridge project. It was noted that the partnership includes the development of joint English-language educational programs, the intensification of scientific research activities, the promotion of academic staff and student mobility, and joint participation in international grant projects. Furthermore, by mutual agreement, the Georgian Technical University will host a delegation from Jan Długosz University this autumn. The visit is expected to significantly contribute to the continuation of the planned activities under the KATAMARAN – MedTech Bridge project and to the implementation of the practical stages of the partnership.
