GTU Marks the 95th Anniversary of Academician Irakli Jordania’s Birth and the 48th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Center for the Study of Productive Forces and Natural Resources

“Georgian Technical University’s Irakli Jordania Center was established 48 years ago, and today, September 17, its founder, Academician Irakli Jordania, would have celebrated his 95th birthday. It is important for the younger generation to be aware of the contributions of those scientists who played a significant role in the development of Georgian science and technical education. This is a legacy that serves not only to preserve the memory of the past, but also to share knowledge, experience, and scientific values with future generations and to foster a new generation of researchers,” said Professor Zurab Gudavadze, President of the Supervisory Board of Georgian Technical University, at an event marking the 48th anniversary of the establishment of the Center for the Study of Productive Forces and Natural Resources and the 95th anniversary of the birth of its founder.

The event was attended by Zurab Lomsadze, Head of the Irakli Jordania Center for the Study of Productive Forces and Natural Resources of Georgia; members of the Center’s staff; Professor Tamar Lominadze, Vice-Rector of the University; representatives of the administration; deans of the faculties; heads of GTU scientific research institutes; specialists in the field; and students.

According to Zurab Lomsadze, the primary objective of the Irakli Jordania Center is to study Georgia’s natural resources and productive potential and to integrate the scientific expertise accumulated in this field with contemporary research.

“This anniversary is significant for the Center not only because of its 48-year history, but also because of the scientific fields and research experience accumulated throughout this period. Over the years, the activities of the Center, named after Irakli Jordania, have focused on studying Georgia’s natural resources, productive forces, and the regional potential of the country. Today, our task is to connect this accumulated experience with the contemporary research agenda. The rational use of natural resources, environmental challenges, regional development opportunities, and the assessment of the country’s productive potential remain highly relevant issues.

In this regard, the Center continues its research activities and seeks to ensure that its findings correspond to contemporary scientific requirements and the needs of the country. The 95th anniversary of Irakli Jordania’s birth is an excellent opportunity to once again acknowledge his contribution to the development of Georgian science and, at the same time, to recognize the responsibility that the scientific center bearing his name carries today.”

According to GTU Vice-Rector, Professor Tamar Lominadze, the 95th anniversary of Irakli Jordania’s birth and the 48th anniversary of the Center provide an important opportunity to highlight once again the scientific legacy that has been built over the years and whose continuation forms an integral part of contemporary research.

“Today, the rational use of natural resources, the study of the country’s productive potential, and the identification of opportunities for sustainable development are more relevant than ever. Research conducted by the Center is of particular importance in this regard, as contemporary scientific research is not limited to studying existing realities; its purpose is to generate knowledge that can contribute to the country’s development.

For Georgian Technical University, it is important that its scientific research units continue to conduct active research, cooperate with local and international scientific communities, and present their findings within the broader scientific community. The history of the Irakli Jordania Center and its current activities represent a continuation of the scientific tradition whose preservation and further development constitute one of the important priorities of our University.”

The Center’s staff presented the attendees with a report on the results of the scientific research conducted under the five-year (2022–2026) project, “Research into the Problems of the Rational Use of Georgia’s Natural Resources and the Sustainable Development of the Productive Forces of the Regions (Territorial Units),” funded by the state within the framework of the State Program for the Promotion of Scientific Research.
