Certificates Awarded to 23 Customs Officers of the Revenue Service

The Georgian Technical University has awarded certificates to 23 customs officers from the Customs Department of the Revenue Service (under the Ministry of Finance of Georgia), confirming their completion of a specialized training course.

In July of this year, with the support of the Georgian Technical University, the customs officers completed a specialized course titled “Training for Appraisers of Jewelry Containing Precious Metals and Gemstones”. The training aimed to strengthen border customs control and develop staff competencies in identifying and valuing precious metals and gemstones.

Certificates were presented to the graduates by Tamar Lominadze, Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University; Irakli Tevdoradze, Deputy Head of the Customs Department; Noe Khozrevanidze, Dean of the Faculty of Mining Geology and Sustainable Mountain Development; Nodar Poporadze, Head of the Course; and Khatuna Gachechiladze, Associate Professor and instructor for the course.

According to Professor Tamar Lomadze, Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University, the Faculty of Mining Geology, and Sustainable Mountain Development has offered a specialized course for “Appraisers of jewelry made with precious metals and gemstones” since 1997. Over this period, the program has trained more than 4,000 specialists. These include representatives from law enforcement and security agencies, the Revenue Service, the banking sector, jewelry salons, and private pawnshops.

The study program “Gemology and Expert Appraisal” encompasses both comprehensive theoretical and practical training. Delivered by qualified specialists in line with modern professional standards, the course aims to develop the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to value precious metals and gemstones.

The educational process incorporates the latest theoretical materials, scientific literature, international standards, online resources, specialized collections, and modern equipment. Practical sessions are conducted in an interactive format that requires active participation. Particular emphasis is placed on studying and practically analyzing collections amassed over the years, complemented by discussions and shared professional experience.

Each training course concludes with a test. Upon receiving a passing grade, the participant is awarded a certificate confirming the relevant qualification.”
