GTU Rector Expresses Condolences on the Passing of Paata Natsvlishvili

David Gurgenidze, Rector of Georgian Technical University and Academician, on behalf of the university community, expresses deep sorrow over the passing of Paata Natsvlishvili, a prominent Georgian journalist, writer, poet, artist, publisher, editor, designer, bibliophile, and public figure, and extends his heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives, friends, and numerous colleagues. With the passing of Paata Natsvlishvili, Georgian society has lost an outstanding creative figure whose life and work were dedicated to the preservation of the Georgian word, culture, books, and national heritage.

Paata Natsvlishvili’s multifaceted creative and professional career was devoted for decades to the service of the Georgian word, books, journalism, and national culture. He was at once a journalist and writer, poet and artist, editor and publisher, designer and researcher, bibliophile and philatelist. All these diverse fields of activity were united by one overarching goal – the creation and preservation of Georgia’s cultural memory.

Of particular importance to us, as Georgian Technical University, are Paata Natsvlishvili’s works on the lives and contributions of Niko and Giorgi Nikoladze, as these two outstanding figures are closely associated with the history of the establishment and development of engineering education, technical thought, and the Georgian engineering school in Georgia. His study of the lives and contributions of the Nikoladzes is particularly valuable to us because Niko Nikoladze’s social and technical thought, as well as Giorgi Nikoladze’s scientific, engineering, sporting, and educational activities, constitute an integral part of the intellectual heritage that Georgian Technical University continues to uphold, develop, and carry forward today.

Paata Natsvlishvili was one of those individuals whose work has ensured that, for the students of our university, Niko and Giorgi Nikoladze are not merely names preserved in the pages of history, but founders of a great Georgian intellectual and engineering tradition and pioneering figures who stood at its very origins.
