Gtu Rector Awards Three Professors With Gold Medals


The Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, by the decision of the Academic Council, awarded three professors of the university with GTU gold medals and certificates of appreciation for their exceptional services to the university, their significant contributions to the development of science, and their dedication to the education of new generations.

At the Academic Council meeting, the Rector awarded gold medals to two professors of the Faculty of Mining Geology and Sustainable Mountain Development – Aleksandre Bezhanishvili and Demur Talakhadze, as well as to a professor of the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering – Varlam Lekiashvili.

According to the rector of the Georgian Technical University, this decision represents recognition of many years of hard work, professional dedication, and high scientific standards of the academic community. According to Academician David Gurgenidze, the development of the university, the strengthening of its intellectual potential, and the promotion of the country’s engineering and technical progress are directly related to the activities of the professors who have been tirelessly serving the field of education and science for decades.

“The scientific and pedagogical work of Professors Aleksandre Bezhanishvili and Demur Talakhadze of the Faculty of Mining Geology and Sustainable Mountain Development, as well as Professor Varlam Lekiashvili of the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering, is an important foundation for strengthening the academic traditions of the university and increasing its competitiveness in the modern educational space. Their contribution is especially important in that it trains specialists in fields of strategic importance for the country’s economic and technological development. The decision taken by the Academic Council is an expression of gratitude and respect from the university towards those people who have dedicated their professional lives to the development of scientific thinking and the education of future generations.”

For information, the GTU “Gold Medal” award was established on May 19th, 2022. It is given for exceptional contributions to the university upon the Rector’s recommendation and the Academic Council’s decision. Since the award began, more than 80 scientists and researchers have received it. Recipients include both Georgian and foreign citizens.
