GTU’s swimming pool “Tonus” team became the champion of Georgia


Georgian Technical University Swimming Pool – “Water Sports Center “Tonus” became the champion of Georgia. The championship featured teams from across Georgia, including “Tonus”, “Batumi”, “Kutaisi”, “Rustavi”, “Olympic”, “Dinamo”, “Dinamo 2”, and “Laguna Vere”.

The water team of “GTU Tonus” won the ongoing national championship among water polo players born in 2008-2009, held at the Olympic swimming pool in Tbilisi, and won the title of Georgian champion.  Throughout the tournament, the GTU Tonus team delivered an outstanding performance, winning every match and finishing the competition undefeated. Their consistent play, strong teamwork, and determination earned them the national championship title in the U18 age category.

Final Championship Result:

  • 1st Place – “Tonus”;
  • 2nd Place – “Dinamo 1”;
  • 3rd Place – “Olympic 2”.

According to Levan Pipia, Head of GTU’s Student Services, Culture, and Sports Department, the team’s success reflects the outstanding work of Head Coach Nodar Chkhartishvili, under whose leadership Tonus completed the season without a single defeat and earned recognition as the country’s top team.

“Winning the Georgian U18 Championship marks an important milestone for this talented generation of young water polo players. Throughout the competition, the team demonstrated exceptional professionalism, discipline, teamwork, and determination. This achievement is the result of consistent hard work, dedicated training, and the tireless efforts of both the athletes and their coaching staff.

We sincerely congratulate every member of the “Tonus” team, Head Coach Nodar Chkhartishvili, and the entire club on this remarkable success. We are confident that many of today’s champions will proudly represent Georgia on the international stage as members of the national water polo teams in the years ahead.”
