An international conference on state languages, artificial intelligence, and the digital economy opened at GTU
“The Georgian language united the Georgian nation in the most difficult historical situation, preserved its state consciousness and cultural continuity. The Georgian word, Georgian handwriting, Georgian hymns, and scientific thought created the spiritual space that saved our national existence. Today, in the era of artificial intelligence and the digital economy, a new dimension is added to this responsibility. It is necessary that the Georgian and Abkhazian languages be fully integrated into modern technological systems, digital platforms, language models, automatic translation systems, artificial intelligence architecture, scientific databases, and the global information space. If the state language fails to become an organic part of modern technological processes, it will gradually lose its functional capabilities, influence, and development prospects. It is our duty to use modern technological progress to strengthen national identity, enhance cultural diversity, and pass it on to future generations,” said Academician David Gurgenidze, Rector of the Georgian Technical University, at the opening of the international conference.
The second international conference of the GTU Scientific Research Institute for Cultural Preservation and Technological Development of State Languages of Georgia, “State Languages of Georgia in the Era of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy – Cultural and Technological Aspects,” was held at the university.
The event, which brings together specialists in digital technologies and artificial intelligence, scientists, representatives of the education sector, and students, was opened by the rector of the Georgian Technical University.
As Academician David Gurgenidze stated, it is important that, within the framework of the conference, special attention be paid to the cultural and technological perspectives of the Georgian and Abkhazian languages, the role of language resources in the modern digital economy, and the challenges and opportunities related to the development of artificial intelligence.
“The world is entering a new digital reality, where information is a valuable resource, quality education is the main factor of global competitiveness, and technological capabilities are one of the determining conditions for the development of a state. Digital transformation is changing people’s lifestyles, the labor market, forms of communication, and the architecture of public relations. However, alongside this large-scale technological progress, important questions arise: where will national cultures, languages, and identities be in the digital world of the future? Will small nations be able to preserve their spiritual and cultural identity in the face of global technological progress? It is in this context that the responsibility of small nations with unique cultures to protect and develop their natural languages, historical memory, and cultural heritage becomes especially significant. Language serves as the historical memory of a nation, the source of its spiritual energy, worldview, cultural code, and the foundation of national identity and self-awareness. Therefore, it is our common responsibility to ensure that future generations live in a Georgia where state languages are organically integrated into the modern digital and technological world. I would like to express my gratitude to the Scientific Research Institute for Cultural Preservation and Technological Development of State Languages of Georgia of our university and Mr. Konstantine Pkhakadze for organizing the conference. I wish success to the participants.”
– Academician David Gurgenidze
