“Georgian Religious Architecture and Contemporary Problems of Urban Planning” – International Conference at GTU
The Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Design of the Georgian Technical University, within the framework of the events dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of Georgia’s Christianization, held an international scientific conference titled “Georgian Religious Architecture and Contemporary Problems of Urban Planning.”
The aim of the conference was to highlight the historical and cultural significance of Georgian religious architecture, discuss issues related to its preservation and integration into the modern urban environment, and strengthen scientific cooperation among scholars, researchers, and young specialists in the field.
The conference was organized by the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Design of the Georgian Technical University and brought together professors, researchers, doctoral candidates, and students of the faculty, as well as representatives of partner higher education institutions. Among the participants was Professor Anna Martyka of the Rzeszów University of Technology, who joined the conference online and shared her scientific perspectives on religious architecture, heritage preservation, and contemporary urban planning challenges.
“The 1700th anniversary of Georgia’s Christianization is a milestone of exceptional importance in the history and culture of our country. Hosting an international scientific conference dedicated to this anniversary is both a great honor and a significant responsibility for the Georgian Technical University, as architecture is the field where national identity, historical memory, and the vision of modern development naturally converge.
Georgian religious architecture is a unique component of the world’s cultural heritage. Its study, preservation, and thoughtful integration into the modern urban environment represent some of the most important professional challenges of our time. That is why conferences of this kind are particularly valuable for advancing scientific research and sharing practical experience.
We are pleased that, alongside the academic community of the Georgian Technical University, scholars and students from partner universities participated in the conference. We extend our sincere thanks to Professor Anna Martyka of the Rzeszów University of Technology in Poland for presenting such an engaging and insightful topic.
Our faculty places special emphasis on the study and preservation of the national cultural heritage and its connection with contemporary architectural processes. I am confident that the ideas and research presented during today’s conference will make a meaningful contribution both to the further study of Georgian religious architecture and to the development of professional approaches that support the preservation of historical heritage and the harmonious evolution of modern urban planning.
I would like to thank all the speakers, participants, students, and partner organizations. It is through scientific events like these that the university strengthens its academic reputation, promotes international cooperation, and creates an opportunity for the younger generation to engage in professional discussions on current issues of modern architectural science”.
– Professor Nugzar Khvedeliani

The conference participants noted that Georgian religious architecture is one of the country’s most significant cultural assets, and that its study, preservation, and harmonious coexistence with the modern urban environment are of great importance from both scientific and practical perspectives.
