Students Participated in the “IV Open International Internet Olympiad in Informatics”
Students of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University participated in the “IV Open International Internet Olympiad in Informatics” organized by the Yagshigeldi Kakaev International University of Oil and Gas (Ashgabat, Turkmenistan).
The international Olympiad is designed to enhance students’ expertise and skills worldwide, while exposing them to current challenges in informatics. Higher education institutions from 50 countries were represented at the IV Open International Internet Olympiad in Informatics.
The Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems at GTU noted that the International Internet Olympiad generated significant interest among both the Georgian Technical University community and students worldwide. Professor Taliko Zhvania emphasized that an event of this magnitude offers students a valuable opportunity to assess their knowledge and skills on an international stage.
According to The Dean, the participation of universities from over 50 countries underscores the Olympiad’s prestige and wide-reaching influence, solidifying its status as a prominent international platform.
“International Olympiads and similar competitions play an important role in further developing the modern model of higher education, as they create a multifaceted educational space that goes beyond the scope of theoretical training. The Olympiad, first of all, contributes to the deepening of professional knowledge – students work on complex tasks that require analytical thinking, algorithmic approaches, and the development of innovative solutions. Additionally, the International Olympiad is an effective platform for the development of intercultural communication. Such competitions provide students from diverse countries with valuable opportunities for collaboration and the exchange of both academic and practical insights. Participants also gain exposure to a variety of educational systems and professional methodologies. Moreover, events of this nature foster a deeper awareness of current technological trends and advancements. Participants get acquainted with the latest methods and tools in informatics and computer science. Such activities enhance students’ competitiveness in the international labor market and promote their professional development.”

GTU Vice-Rector Tamar Lominadze considers the involvement of students in international activities to be strategically important for the university. According to her, such events increase the quality of the educational process and strengthen GTU’s positions in the global academic space.
As Professor Tamar Lominadze states, participation in international projects and Olympiads allows the university to actively integrate into the global academic space, establish partnerships with foreign educational and research institutions, and increase its international visibility.
“The systematic involvement of students in international academic activities, including Olympiads of various levels and formats, which is implemented with the support of the Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, is one of the priority directions of the institutional development of the Georgian Technical University. The practice is grounded in the university’s mission and goals, focusing on delivering high-quality education and enhancing research potential. Participation in international Olympiads of this type contributes to the development of students’ ability to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical context, deepening critical and algorithmic thinking, and the formation of innovative approaches.
Georgian Technical University purposefully promotes students’ involvement in international Olympiads, competitions, and projects, which is considered an important tool for improving the university’s educational quality. Such processes contribute to the university’s positioning on the international academic map, strengthen its reputation, and create a basis for expanding partnerships. In addition, the tasks set within the framework of such activities include increasing the competitiveness of students in the international labor market, developing their professional and research skills, and forming innovative and technologically oriented thinking. The university continues to work actively in this direction to ensure the creation of opportunities for students that will allow them to fully participate in the processes and represent our country with dignity at the international level.”
