GTU Announces an Open Competition for Academic Positions in the English-Language Programs of the International Design School

The Georgian Technical University (hereinafter the University) announces an open competition for the academic positions of Professor and Associate Professor in the English-language programs of the International Design School for a four-year term, beginning with the 2026–2027 academic year.

Competition (Qualification) Requirements:

1. A candidate may be elected to the position of Professor if they hold a doctoral degree and have at least six years of scientific and pedagogical experience; or possess significant professional experience, confirmed by: professional practice; specialized training or publications; authorship of at least six projects implemented in creative practice; and/or authorship of project(s) presented in creative competitions (including international competitions); and/or personal artistic exhibition(s).
2. A candidate may be elected to the position of Associate Professor if they: hold a doctoral degree and have at least three years of scientific and pedagogical experience; or possess professional experience confirmed by: professional practice; specialized training or publications; authorship of at least six projects implemented in creative practice; and/or authorship of project(s) presented in creative competitions (including international competitions); and/or personal artistic exhibition(s).

Note:

Applicants must demonstrate a good knowledge of the English language; an adequate knowledge of English colloquial words and special terminology, and outstanding communication skills. The contestant will be required to deliver a demonstration lecture in English.

Competition Documentation:

Applicants must submit the following documents to the Competition Commission:

a) A completed application form indicating the relevant subject group and academic position, together with the candidate questionnaire;

b) A Curriculum Vitae (CV) in both Georgian and English;

c) An identity card (original and photocopy);

d) Copies of educational qualifications and supporting documentation;

e) Documents confirming scientific and pedagogical experience, certified by the relevant organization or institution;

f) A list of scientific publications and educational-methodological works, certified by the signature and seal of a competent person of the relevant institution or organization (certification may also be provided by the head of the relevant academic department together with the department/faculty seal), and/or documentation confirming: authorship of at least six projects implemented in creative practice; authorship of projects presented in creative competitions (including international competitions); and/or personal artistic exhibition(s);

g) Any additional supporting information or documentation (if applicable);

h) Two 3×4 cm photographs;

i) A certificate of conviction confirming the absence of convictions for crimes against sexual freedom and inviolability, and a certificate of deprivation of rights, issued by the Service Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The applicants who have already submitted the above certificate to the University’s Human Resources Management and Records Service are not required to submit it again.

Deadlines for accepting applications and conducting the competition:

• Applications for the competition will be accepted from August 24 to August 31 inclusive, (excluding weekends), from 10:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m., at the Secretariat of the Competition Commission – Tbilisi, Kostava, 75, 8th Academic Building, International Design School, 2nd floor, room No. 3, responsible person – Marina Mitichashvili, tel: 599 105 607.
• The competition will be held from September 7 to September 9, 2026.
• Preliminary results will be published no later than September 10, 2026, in a publicly visible location within the relevant university building and on the GTU website: gtu.ge;
• Applications/complaints regarding the competition will be accepted by the Competition Commission from September 11 to September 14, 2026.
• Final results will be published on the university website no later than the second day following approval by the Academic Council.
• Employment and affiliation agreements will be signed with successful candidates within 10 days after publication of the final results.

The application may be submitted for only one field of study and one specific position. The application and questionnaire forms will be published on the university’s website.

If an applicant is currently studying abroad or has obtained higher education abroad, they are required to submit a document confirming the official recognition (equivalency) of their foreign educational qualification.

Note:

Applicants who have studied or obtained a higher education qualification abroad must submit a document confirming the official recognition of their foreign qualification.

Applicants employed at another higher education institution who are selected in the competition must sign an affiliation agreement before concluding an employment contract.

Restrictions for the Participant:

• Persons prohibited by applicable legislation from holding an academic position at a higher education institution are not eligible to participate in the competition.
• Applicants employed full-time at another institution may apply only for part-time vacancies announced by the university.

Competition rules:

• The competition will be conducted in accordance with the Law of Georgia on Higher Education; the Charter of the Georgian Technical University; and the Regulation on the Recruitment of Academic Personnel, with which applicants may familiarize themselves through the Competition Commission and the university website.
• The Competition Commission will consider: the submitted documentation; the candidate’s qualifications and competence in relation to the advertised position; scientific, research, practical, educational-methodological, and teaching activities relevant to the position; other achievements, qualifications, experience, and professional merit; and the results of the candidate’s demonstration lecture and/or interview.
• Competition results may be appealed in court in accordance with the applicable legislation.

Information about the workload and remuneration of academic staff:

Academic staff responsibilities consist of three components:

• Educational and teaching activities;
• Consulting duties and supervision/participation in practical training required by the educational program;
• Scientific research activities.

Professor’s responsibilities:

1. Educational and Teaching Duties: 480 hours per year of lectures, practical classes, seminars, laboratory work, course assignments, and course projects.

2. Consulting Duties and participation in practical training required by the educational program.

3. Scientific Research Responsibilities:

• Publish at least two articles in a local peer-reviewed scientific journal or edited volume every two years, with at least one article co-authored with student(s).
• Publish one scientific article in an international, high-ranking peer-reviewed journal or edited volume every two years.
• Participate as a presenter in an international scientific forum (conference, symposium, workshop, scientific seminar, or congress) every two years.
• Publish one textbook, scholarly book, monograph, or edited volume within a four-year period.
• Participate in an international research project within a four-year period.

The responsibilities of a professor also include:

• Supervising master’s and/or doctoral students (as a rule, no more than three master’s students and three doctoral students simultaneously).
• Contributing to the refinement and development of the relevant academic program.
• Continuously developing the curricula of the relevant course(s) within the academic program(s).
• Preparing and/or ensuring the availability of the teaching materials required for the delivery of the relevant course(s).

Associate Professor Responsibilities:

1. Teaching and pedagogical activities (lectures, practical classes, seminars, laboratory sessions, course assignments, and course projects): 500 hours per year.

2. Provision of academic consultations and ensuring and/or participating in practical training as предусмотрено by the academic program.

3. Research Activities:

• Publish at least two articles every two years in a local peer-reviewed scientific journal or edited volume (including at least one article with the participation of student(s)).
• Publish one scientific article every two years in an international, high-ranking peer-reviewed journal or edited volume.
• Participate as a presenter every two years in an international scientific forum (conference, symposium, workshop, scientific seminar, or congress).
• Publish one textbook, scholarly book, monograph, or edited volume within a four-year period.
• Participate in an international scientific research project within a four-year period.

The responsibilities of an associate professor also include:

• Supervising master’s and/or doctoral students (as a rule, no more than two master’s students and two doctoral students simultaneously).
• Contributing to the refinement and development of the relevant academic program.
• Continuously developing the curricula of the relevant course(s) within the academic program(s).
• Preparing and/or ensuring the availability of the teaching literature required for the implementation of the relevant course(s) within the academic program(s).
