GTU expresses deep sorrow for the horrible tragedy that happened at Vera in Tbilisi

Rector of Georgian Technical University, academician David Gurgenidze, on behalf of professors, employees, and students, echoes the tragedy that occurred on Vera in Tbilisi, which took the life of 17-year-old Nikoloz Ghunashvili, and expresses his condolences to the family of the murdered young man.

“We offer our condolences to the former employee of our university, Mrs. Eka Ghunashvili, to the family and relatives of the young man who tragically died, and to all those people who are mourning the cruel end of his life.

There is a pain that can’t be alleviated; there is a loss that no one and nothing can compensate for – when a young man’s life is ruthlessly cut short, when he had only seventeen springs to live and a whole life full of hopes and possibilities lay ahead.

Life is the highest value, the protection of which is the unconditional obligation of every member of society. Its encroachment is the most serious crime, leaving a deep mark on the hearts and consciences of each of us. At such times, not only the family mourns – the whole country mourns, because each young life is the future of our country, our common hope and responsibility. Each such tragedy reminds us how important it is that the strictest punishment of the perpetrators unconditionally follows violence and encroachment on life – it is the unwaveringness of this feeling that creates a safe environment for our children, young people, and each of us.

Georgian Technical University shares the immense pain of the family of the deceased young man. In these most difficult moments, we stand with them with all our hearts, pray for the repose of Nikoloz’s soul, and wish his family, relatives, and friends the strength and fortitude to endure this indescribable ordeal.”
