Public Lecture by Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, Doctor of Historical Sciences, at GTU
“The Georgian Technical University is not only a center of technological and engineering knowledge. The mission of our university also includes the preservation and development of national culture, historical memory, and humanitarian values. That is why we place special importance on events dedicated to the most significant figures in Georgian culture and literature. The topic of Konstantine Gamsakhurdia’s public lecture is connected to one of Georgia’s most outstanding writers, the great Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, whose work left an indelible mark on the development of Georgian literature, national self-awareness, and identity. His works are distinguished not only by their artistic merit but also by their reflection of the historical experience, spiritual quest, ideal of freedom, and cultural identity of the Georgian nation,” said the Rector of Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, at the opening ceremony of the public lecture delivered by Dr. Konstantine (Koko) Gamsakhurdia, Associate Professor and Director General of the National Library of Georgia.
The public lecture, titled “The Works of Konstantine Gamsakhurdia,” took place as part of the events commemorating the 1700th anniversary of Christianity’s adoption as Georgia’s state religion. Organized under the auspices of the “Georgian Identity” cultural and educational program, the event brought together researchers, students, and guests.
As the GTU Rector noted, the university places special emphasis on academic and cultural events that promote national heritage, history, and culture, deepen humanitarian knowledge among the youth, and encourage scientific discussion. According to Academician David Gurgenidze, the public lecture represented another important step toward academic dialogue, the study of cultural heritage, and the intellectual development of students.
“The work of Konstantine Gamsakhurdia remains a subject of research, discussion, and new interpretations to this day. His literary legacy enables us to gain a deeper understanding of our history, culture, and the values upon which Georgian statehood has been built for centuries. I would like to express my special gratitude to Mr. Koko Gamsakhurdia for his cooperation with Georgian Technical University and for sharing his knowledge and experience with our students and the wider public.”
– Academician David Gurgenidze
During the public lecture, the speaker discussed the literary heritage of the renowned Georgian writer Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, the main themes of his work, its historical and cultural context, and the values that occupy a special place in Georgian literature and national consciousness. The meeting was held in an interactive format, allowing students and audience members to ask questions and receive comprehensive answers on topics of interest.
For information: Georgia is celebrating the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as its state religion this year. In connection with this date, a three-year cultural and educational program, “Georgian Identity,” was developed under the leadership of scholars and cultural figures, with the support of the Patriarchate of Georgia and the Georgian National Academy of Sciences. The program was launched in May 2024.
The program aims to engage the public in examining the most important stages of history that have shaped Georgia’s unique culture and values.
Video recordings of the public lectures are available on the YouTube channel of the Logos International Center for Christian Research.
