The Scientific Council of the GTU Institute of Structures, Special Systems, and Engineering Support Announces a Competition


The Scientific Council of the Georgian Technical University’s Institute of Structures, Special Systems, and Engineering Support announces an open competition to fill the following positions:

  • The Head of the Independent Scientific-Research Unit
  • Senior Research Employee, Engineering Support Department – ​​5 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent)

Applications will be accepted from November 6 to November 10, 2026, between 10:00 and 05:00 p.m., at the following address: 77 Merab Kostava St., Tbilisi, Georgian Technical University, Building I, 6th Floor, Room 621. Contact person: Nana Maisuradze, Tel: 595 43 00 89.

The Institute’s Scientific Council will conduct the interview and vote on the candidate(s) for the vacant position of the Head of the independent scientific research unit on November 12, 2026. The Scientific Council will announce the results immediately after the vote on November 12, 2026; they will be posted in a prominent location within the Institute and published on the University’s website.

The Institute’s Scientific Council will submit the candidate elected as Head of the independent scientific research unit to the Academic Council of the Georgian Technical University for approval no later than November 20, 2026.

According to the university’s charter, the academic council, by secret ballot and with a qualified majority of 2/3 votes, decides individually whether to appoint a person aged 65 or older to an administrative position (note: this refers to the position of the head of an independent scientific research unit). A person of the mentioned age must also submit the academic council’s consent to the institute’s scientific council. For this purpose, he/she should submit an application to the University’s Human Resources Management and Case Management Service by October 20, 2026. Attendance at the Academic Council meeting when discussing his/her issue is mandatory; otherwise, the issue will not be considered.

The competition commission will hold the competition for the vacant Senior Researcher position on November 13, 2026. The initial results will be published no later than November 13, 2026, in a prominent location and on the university’s website.

Statements or complaints regarding violations of the competition procedures will be accepted by the Scientific Council or the competition commission until November 18, 2026.

Additional information for prospective participants (applicant questionnaire and application form, as well as the time and venue of the interview) will be published on the university’s website.

  1. Competition Conditions

Main conditions of the competition:

  • The position of the Head of an independent scientific research unit may be held by a person who meets the requirements established for the position of Chief Research Employee of that unit — specifically, holding a doctoral degree (or an equivalent academic degree) and possessing at least 6 (six) years of experience in scientific research activity. If the individual does not currently hold the position of Chief Research Employee at the independent scientific research unit, their appointment as Head of the unit shall also constitute their election to the position of Chief Research Employee;
  • Additional competition requirements: To qualify for the position of Head of an independent scientific research unit, the candidate must have published at least three scientific papers in international and local journals within the last six years in a field relevant to the unit’s profile; hold authorship rights for a discovery (diploma) or an invention (author’s certificate or patent); have participated in local and international conferences and other projects; and have achieved recognized results through their scientific activities.

The Head of an independent scientific research unit is elected for a term of 5 (five) years. The same person may hold the position for a maximum of two consecutive terms.

The position of senior research employee may be held by a person who has a doctoral degree or an academic degree equivalent thereto.

A person is elected to the position of senior research fellow for a term of 5 (five) years.

Applicants wishing to participate in the competition must submit the following in person (or through a representative):

  1. a) An application and questionnaire, drawn up and signed in the prescribed form (specifying the position subject to the competition is mandatory), along with documentation verifying the information provided therein: diploma, certificate, license, award document, official statement, etc. (original and copy);
  2. b) Document verifying scientific/academic degree (original and copy);
  3. c) Document(s) verifying scientific research experience (tenure), certified by the seal of the relevant organization/institution;
  4. d) List of scientific and educational-methodological works, certified by the signature and seal of a competent official from the relevant institution/organization or its structural unit;
  5. e) Action plan (to be submitted only by a candidate applying for the position of the head of an independent scientific research unit);
  6. f) Identity card (original and photocopy)
  7. g) Two 3×4 photographs;
  8. h) CV (autobiography);
  9. i) List of scientific publications from the last 5 (five) years;
  10. j) Certificate regarding any criminal record for offenses against sexual freedom and integrity, and a certificate regarding any deprivation of rights.

Note: Individuals who have already submitted the aforementioned certificates to the University’s Human Resources Management and Records Management Service are exempt from submitting them.

III. Rules for Conducting the Competition

  • The competition shall be conducted in accordance with the Law of Georgia “On Higher Education,” the University Charter, and the “Rule on Hiring Scientific Personnel for the Institute of Structures, Special Systems, and Engineering Support;” candidates may familiarize themselves with these documents at the Scientific Council/Competition Commission and on the University’s website.
  • The Scientific Council/Selection Committee will consider the alignment of the candidate’s qualifications and competence with the position, including scientific research, practical, and other activities, achievements, qualifications, experience, and merits relevant to the position’s profile. Additionally, the results of interviews conducted with the candidate(s) will be taken into account (subject to the decision of the Scientific Council/Selection Committee).
  • The results of the competition may be appealed in court in accordance with applicable legislation.
