GTU Opens China-Georgia Research Center for Dialogue and Cooperation Between Civilizations


The Research Center for Dialogue and Cooperation Between Civilizations between China and Georgia has been established at the Faculty of Law and International Relations of the Georgian Technical University under a Memorandum of Cooperation signed between Georgian Technical University and Lanzhou University of Technology (China).

The center was officially opened by Professor Zurab Gudavadze, President of the GTU Supervisory Board, and Professor Li Ziwei, Head of the Delegation from Lanzhou University of Technology.

The opening ceremony was attended by Associate Professor Ivane (Mamuka) Giorgadze, Dean of the Faculty of Law and International Relations, members of the university’s academic and scientific community, students, and representatives of Lanzhou University of Technology, including Yang Min, Zhu Changbing, and Jiao Zi.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Zurab Gudavadze emphasized that the establishment of the new research center marks an important step in strengthening educational, scientific, and cultural ties between Georgia and China.

According to Professor Zurab Gudavadze, the partnership between Georgian Technical University and Lanzhou University of Technology is built on a shared commitment to advancing cooperation in higher education and research. The memorandum provides a solid foundation for joint research initiatives, academic exchange, and international projects that will promote the sharing of knowledge, expertise, and innovative approaches.

“Georgia and China have been connected for centuries through the legacy of the Silk Road, which served as a unique platform for dialogue, trade, and cultural exchange between civilizations. Today, we are continuing this tradition through academic and scientific cooperation. We are confident that the newly established research center will create valuable opportunities for our students, young researchers, and academic staff to participate in joint research projects, exchange programs, international conferences, and educational initiatives, significantly contributing to their professional and scientific development.”

Professor Li Ziwei of Lanzhou University of Technology noted that the historical ties forged through the ancient Silk Road can be further strengthened through mutual understanding and academic collaboration. He expressed Lanzhou University of Technology’s full commitment to working closely with Georgian partners to develop the center into a distinctive platform for research, cultural dialogue, and scientific cooperation between the two countries.

At the conclusion of the event, the representatives of both universities expressed their appreciation for the productive partnership and voiced confidence that the China–Georgia Research Center for Dialogue and Cooperation Between Civilizations will begin with a new joint educational and research initiatives, beginning with a collaborative scientific conference to be hosted at the Georgian Technical University.
