“Georgian Technical University Is a Family Where Everyone Supports Each Other” – GTU Student

“When I was choosing a university, it was important for me to find a field of study that would allow me to contribute to the country’s development. That is why I chose “Sustainable Development of the Mountain Rural Environment” – a unique program offered exclusively by the Georgian Technical University that addresses the modern challenges and opportunities of developing mountainous regions,” says Mariam Bakradze, a third-year student at the Faculty of Mining Geology and Sustainable Mountain Development.

Mariam Bakradze is currently in her third year at the Faculty of Mining Geology and Sustainable Mountain Development. According to her, the “Sustainable Development of the Mountain Rural Environment” program covers environmental protection, natural resource management, sustainable development, regional planning, and the socio-economic development of mountain communities. The curriculum enables students to gain an in-depth understanding of the challenges facing mountainous regions and explore innovative approaches to sustainable solutions.

She emphasizes that the program is unique in Georgia and is offered only at the Georgian Technical University, providing students with a distinctive educational experience and a competitive advantage for careers in sustainable regional development.

“I would especially like to highlight the learning environment at the university. The relationship between students and lecturers is built on cooperation, support, and professional growth. Our lecturers are always willing to share both academic knowledge and practical experience, making the educational process engaging and meaningful. The faculty also maintains active partnerships with international educational and research institutions, creating valuable opportunities for students to gain global experience and expand their professional horizons.

Numerous conferences are organized throughout the university, including faculty-level events. I participated in the 88th Open International Scientific Student Conference of the Georgian Technical University, where I ranked among the top three winners. I also regularly take part in international conferences. Working on research projects allows me to deepen my knowledge and gain practical experience in my field. As part of our faculty activities, we frequently travel to different regions of Georgia, where we present projects on organic production, sustainable tourism, and modern biotechnologies to local communities while learning from their experiences through direct dialogue. I also participated in a conference organized by the Resort Development Agency, where I was selected for a program focused on developing “Mravaldzala” into a multi-purpose resort.

In addition, I had the opportunity to serve as editor-in-chief of the faculty newspaper and to meet several times with our Japanese partners alongside faculty representatives, gaining valuable insights from their expertise. Since my first year, I have been a university scholarship recipient and have also received scholarships from private foundations, including the “Tamaz Bekaia Foundation” and the “Iavnana Foundation”.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Georgian Technical University to prospective students because it offers dedicated and highly experienced lecturers, excellent opportunities for practical learning, and, most importantly, a supportive community. GTU students are not only groupmates – they become part of a family where everyone supports one another”.
