Sports activity – “Rafting – 2026” at GTU


A university sports activity – “Rafting – 2026” was held for students of the Georgian Technical University who are fans of extreme sports in the town of Pasanauri, on the Aragvi River.

Teams from 11 faculties participated in “Rafting -2026”. The sports event was organized by the GTU Students’ Self-Government and supported by the Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze.

As the President of the GTU Students’ Self-Government, David Leshkasheli, notes, participation in the university sports activity was possible for any student upon prior registration. According to him, 60 students of the Georgian Technical University were involved in “Rafting -2026”.

According to David Leshkasheli, university sports activities are an important part of student life, which not only provide young people with experience in physical activity and extreme sports but also contribute to the development of teamwork, mutual trust, and responsibility. Such events unite students from different faculties, strengthen the university’s sense of unity, and create an environment where learning and active student life are in harmony.

“Rafting is one of the outstanding university sports activities that takes place every year. It gives students the opportunity to experience extreme sports together and act as a team. Participation in the event was open based on pre-registration and involved 60 students from 11 faculties, which once again emphasizes the active role of student self-government and the importance of initiatives supported by the Rector.”

It is noteworthy that the winner of the intra-university championship was a group of students from the Faculty of Business Technologies; the second place went to a joint team from the Faculties of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering, and  Agricultural Sciences and Chemical Technologies; and the third place went to a team from the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems.
