Scientific and Educational Event Held at GTU Within the Framework of the PTB Project


A three-part scientific and educational event of significant academic and practical importance was held at Georgian Technical University as part of a project supported by PTB (the German National Metrology Institute – Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt).

The event featured the presentation of the PTB publication “The Way to Solve the Global Challenge of Quality – National Quality Infrastructure”, the presentation of the outcomes of a study visit to Germany held on May 4–9 under the theme “Cooperation Between Academia and the Private Sector – The Path to Innovation”, and the unveiling of the upgraded Thermal Resistance Laboratory system and equipment at GTU’s Faculty of Power Engineering.

The event was opened by GTU Vice-Rector Professor Tamar Lominadze and brought together representatives of universities, quality infrastructure institutions, construction materials manufacturers, construction companies, professional associations, and PTB experts. Among the distinguished participants were: Dr. Clemens Sanetra, PTB expert and author of the featured publication; Laura Donath, PTB Project Coordinator; Keya Choudhury, PTB Consultant; and Dr. Nodar Khatiashvili, Technical Editor of the book’s Georgian edition.

In the educational program of the study visit to Germany participated: Nino Bakhtadze and Mari Tebidze from the Faculty of Construction; Temur Mikiashvili from the Faculty of Power Engineering; and Natela Dzebisashvili from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Biosystems Engineering.

According to Professor Tamar Lominadze, Vice-Rector of Georgian Technical Universityis one of the project’s key partners because it plays a leading role in educating specialists and advancing research in quality infrastructure, standardization, metrology, and conformity assessment.

she noted that the publication “The Way to Solve the Global Challenge of Quality – National Quality Infrastructure” will serve as a valuable educational resource for both faculty members and students.

“This event provides an important platform for strengthening cooperation between academia, industry, and the quality infrastructure community. Sharing German experience in fostering collaboration between universities and the private sector contributes to innovation, knowledge transfer, and the preparation of highly qualified professionals equipped to meet modern industry demands. The significance of this initiative is multifaceted.

It promotes awareness of quality infrastructure, strengthens university–industry partnerships, facilitates the exchange of international best practices, supports the professional development of students, showcases modern laboratory capabilities, and enhances the competitiveness of the construction materials sector. The presented publication is an important guide for understanding national quality infrastructure systems and their practical application”.
