Carole Westerkamp’s public lecture – “Modern Communication Techniques” – was held at the Jiuli Shartava Technical and Technology Teaching and Research Laboratory Complex at the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems and was attended by students, academic staff, and listeners interested in the field.

During the lecture, the professor of Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences spoke about the importance of effective communication in the modern digital era, focusing on interpersonal, organizational, and digital communication strategies, as well as the influence of social media and virtual collaboration tools. According to the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian State University, Karole Westerkamp, shared practical examples and recommendations from international experience with students on how to improve communication skills in a professional environment. According to Professor Taliko Zhvania, such international academic meetings contribute to the professional development of students, the sharing of experience, and integration into the global educational space.

“In the 21st century, when technology is developing at the speed of light, it is especially important to understand the role of communication in the field of information technologies. A common misconception is that information technologies are solely about engineering, technical expertise, and programming. In fact, the success of this field also relies heavily on effective communication—whether in teamwork, collaborative software development, customer relations, or the clear presentation of ideas. For today’s IT specialists, it is essential to translate complex technical concepts into language that is accessible and meaningful to their intended audience. Georgian Technical University ensures that students not only possess technical knowledge, but also, through effective communication, are able to convey their ideas and successfully integrate into the international environment. Considering these and other reasons, the development of communication skills at Georgian Technical University is integrated into educational programs and various practical components – presentations, team projects, research activities, and public speeches. Our goal is for students to receive not only high-level engineering and technical education, but also to develop into full-fledged professionals, able to generate innovative ideas and successfully implement them in an international environment.”

– Professor Taliko Zhvania

A question-and-answer session was held at the end of the lecture, during which the students received comprehensive answers to their interesting questions from the professor from Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.
